BEAT THE HEAT

May 2017

Every ceiling fan was tested before it could leave the shop. Took over an hour before the OK was given.

We are working on three different projects at the orphanage right now. I call them Earth, Wind, and Water. ‘Wind’ is almost finished. It started when we visited the new sleeping quarters for twenty-four girls. When I walked in I could hardly breathe because of the unbearable temperature in the rooms. As I looked up, I saw that the ceiling was just a tin roof. You could not touch it without burning your hands. The sun relentlessly scorched the tin plates and made the rooms feel like a hundred degrees. In my opinion it was impossible to have a good night’s sleep.

Back at the orphanage, the girls eagerly helped to unload the car while the little boy supervised his sister’s job.

A few calls, and I was able to fully finance the ‘ Wind ‘ project. I bought eleven ceiling fans and hardware to hang them safely. They are now quietly humming….

One of the bigger bedrooms, so they got two ceiling fans.

It was a small project with a big impact and it took about a week from start to finish. Thanks to donations from Susan and Myron McCumber, Truus Jansen, Mathieu Delarue , Bill Baker, Danielle and me. The kids can breathe a little easier now.
